Practice interviews and disclosed meetings without your data leaving your Mac
Private Interview Coach listens to your own microphone during interview practice or a meeting where everyone has agreed to it, transcribes on-device, and shows short, grounded suggestion cards drawn from your own resume, job description and notes. Audio, transcripts, resumes and reports never leave your machine.
Status: this is a local build running on the author's own Mac. It is not yet packaged or distributed. Nothing here is an offer to download software today.
How it works
Explicit consent gate
Before your own microphone is ever opened, the app requires an explicit, affirmative consent step. There is no background or silent activation.
Always-visible listening state
A persistent indicator shows whether the app is listening, paused or stopped, with one-click pause, resume and stop controls always reachable.
On-device transcription
Speech-to-text runs locally using macOS's built-in Speech framework. No audio or transcript is uploaded to any server for this step.
Deterministic, grounded suggestions
Suggestion cards are built from simple, deterministic matching against your own uploaded resume, job description and notes — not a black-box model guessing about you.
Practice modes
Behavioral, coding and system-design practice modes, each with question patterns and card templates suited to that interview style.
Encrypted local history
Session history is encrypted at rest on your disk, with a configurable retention period and a delete-everything control.
What it will not do
- It will not capture system audio or other participants' voices — only your own microphone, and only after you consent.
- It will not run in a stealth mode or hide itself during screen sharing.
- It is not designed or intended to evade interview proctoring or anti-cheating tools.
- It is not for use in a real interview unless the interviewer has explicitly permitted assistance tools.
- For any recorded meeting, every participant must be told the app is in use before it listens.
Who it's for
People rehearsing behavioral, coding and system-design interviews on their own, and people who want a quiet, on-device assistant for meetings where assistance has been explicitly agreed to by everyone present. It is a practice and disclosed-assistance tool, not a covert one.
